ANEP and the Drug Board presented a health promotion and prevention plan for the consumption of psychoactive substances

Both institutions launched, this Friday the 3rd, the “Plan for health promotion and prevention of the problem of the consumption of psychoactive substances and other addictive behaviours”. The secretary of the National Drug Board, Daniel Radío, maintained that the joint work is consistent with the complex nature of the phenomenon it deals with. ANEP councilor Dora Graziano affirmed that there is no health without education and no education without health.

The initiative was developed in a coordinated manner between the Analysis and Intervention Unit (UNAI) of the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), representatives of different education subsystems and technicians of the National Drug Board (JND).

Also participating in the presentation, held in the auditorium of the ANEP headquarters, were the Director of Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), Gonzalo Baroni; the directors Dora Graziano and Juan Gabito; the coordinator of the UNAI, Carolina Ponasso, and the director of Human Rights of the organization, Gloria Canclini.

In the oratory, Radio highlighted the inter-institutional work that allowed the elaboration of this strategy of health promotion and prevention of the problem of the consumption of psychoactive substances and other addictive behaviors over time.

He added that Uruguay is strengthened with this type of initiatives that involve incorporating and sharing resources and bringing together strategies for a unity in management.

“Our country has been consistent in addressing the complex problem associated with drug use from a comprehensive perspective, which always bets on the person, their well-being, their health and their freedom,” said the hierarch. Likewise, he highlighted the figure of teachers as key actors, due to their impact on the development of cognitive, social and affective skills of students.

In dialogue with the Presidential Communication, he expressed that the classrooms will be transformed into an area for the prevention of the consumption of psychoactive substances and the promotion of healthy lifestyles, as well as coexistence and interest in others.

Meanwhile, Graziano considered that the presentation of the plan constitutes a significant event, since it concludes an important inter-institutional work for the benefit of the comprehensive health of children and young people.

The counselor said that education plays a fundamental role in the prevention of risk behaviors and that ANEP considers it essential to join efforts to improve prevention. “There is no health without education and no education without health,” she stressed.

The plan is part of the policies promoted by the organization, aimed at promoting comprehensive health from a conception focused on the value of education, the generation of well-being and the prevention of risk behaviors. Presidency
