Price agreement between rice growers and industrialists: US$ 12.25 per 50-kilo bag

Rice producers and industrialists who receive, process and market the harvested grain reached an agreementafter which the final price for the product of the 2020/21 harvest was US$ 12.25 per 50-kilo bag of dry, healthy and clean rice.

the final price In the case of the INIA Tacuarí rice variety, it is higher, US$13.29 per bag..

The agreement, after the provisional value established in the middle of last year, considers a credit in the producer’s account of US$0.05 per bag for non-American varieties and one of US$0.09 per bag for American varieties, which It is determined in the value already mentioned (US$ 12.25) plus other items to consider:

A tax refund credit of US$0.54 per bag.

A debit for the concept of contribution to the Rice Activity Financing and Reconversion Fund, of US$0.44 per bag.

The novelty was confirmed this Friday by the Rice Growers Association (HERE).

Alfredo Lago, president of the unionhighlighted to The Observer what the final price is “balanced, obviously we would all like to get more, but I think it’s a fair price for each part”.

Although it contemplates a low credit, five cents on the dollar, it must be considered that despite the fact that there were good values, the marketing of rice last season was notoriously more expensive due, more than anything, to logistical difficulties.

Another aspect highlighted by the producer is that the little difference between the provisional price established almost a year ago and the definitive one that has just been established is a sign that there was a good ability to interpret the reality that was ahead at the time.

This week’s deal happened when 100% of the rice that was produced in that harvest has been sold (almost totally abroad) before the end of the financial year (February 28), but even progress has already been made in the sale of the rice that is being harvestedhaving placed 35%.

Regarding the provisional price for rice for the 2021/22 campaign, it is expected to have the same around June 15, prior to the end of the initial semester, when perhaps at least half of the new rice has been sold.

It is estimated a harvest this year of 1.51 million tons.

On Tuesday of this week, the ACA reported on the progress of this agricultural work in 76% of the cultivated area, which for this campaign grew by 15% and reached 164,000 hectares, with an average yield (at the national level) of between 9,000 and 9,100 kilos, the second largest in history, and a production that will exceed one and a half million tons of rice, which can translate into an estimated turnover of US$ 600 million.
