Minister of Education reveals that some schools that had been repaired were vandalized over the weekend

This Thursday morning, the presentation of the last report of the program of the National Operation Center 2022 (CON Escuelas 2022) was developed, which aims to advance in maintenance work and minor repairs of electricity, plumbing, painting, repair of ceilings , welding and blacksmithing, general cleaning and construction of accesses for people with disabilities in 377 schools out of 627 chosen for this purpose.

During this presentation, the report indicates that in the entire national geography in attention there are currently 130 schools and, for the moment, 1,096,284.97 balboas have been invested.

In terms of percentage of progress, of 377 schools in which the work has been completed are the educational regions of San Miguelito and Los Santos.

In Western Panama the advance is 90.20%; Panama East 83.33% of school buildings are ready; 76% progress in Bocas del Toro; Veraguas and North Panama register 67.67%; Colón, Coclé and the Emberá Wounaan region with 60% each school region.

The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, denounced that some educational centers that had already been repaired were vandalized during the weekend.

“We have had reports of some schools in Central Panama, specifically this weekend, such as the Urracá Institute, the IPT Nicolás del Rosario and the IPT San Miguelito, including water pumps,” explained the head of the Ministry of Education (Meduca ).

Gorday de Villalobos appealed to the community to be vigilant of these actions and to inform the authorities.

He revealed that he held a meeting this Wednesday with the Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino. “We are going to carry out a series of operations, there are even cameras in educational centers. We know that there are some special areas in our country such as Colón, San Miguelito, Panama Centro, Panama Oeste, but the idea is that the community is aware, Just as we have that Neighborhood Watch program in the communities, we can have Neighborhood Watch for a school, and we have thought of a program like this with the minister,” he remarked.

So far, in 77 days of CON Escuelas 2022, 1,607 operations have been carried out: 38 maritime with more than 264 hours of mission and 764 nautical miles sailed. 1,556 land operations were carried out and 144,755 kilometers were traveled in pick-ups, buses, vans, pick-ups and cargo trucks.

For the work in the 627 educational centers throughout the country selected for the CON Escuelas 2022, 2 million 276 thousand 902 balboas were allocated, which will provide comfort and safety to 158,998 students.
