The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, generated criticism from different sectors -mainly from the Broad Front- for making a joke about citizen security at an event of the National Party for the “No” in the referendum against the 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC).

At the rally, in which the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, the former candidate for the Intendancy, Laura Raffo, and the Undersecretary of the Environment, Gerardo Amarilla, among other nationalist leaders, also participated, Heber spoke and some participants launched fireworks in the background.

At that moment, Delgado approached Heber and told him: “Don’t throw bombs,” referring to a controversial and historic speech by the late white deputy for Artigas: Carlos “Alma” Guani dos Santos.

Heber smiled and replied the expression: “Don’t throw bombs!”, as reported by Telemundo 12. For his part, Raffo limited: “They are not shots, Heber.” But the Secretary of State added, with a smile: “Yes. They confuse me. Because that’s how some neighborhoods are.”

Apologies

Although he admits that his words were not “correct”, he justified himself by asserting that some people could have “misunderstood” the joke.

“We made a very unfortunate comment about that situation that could have been misunderstood and used in a bad way, which can lead to being very far from our intention, which is to laugh at a situation like the one that is being experienced in some places” , began by saying the Minister of the Interior.

“TOyes, if that was misunderstood, I apologize for the case: my words were not correct and were unfortunate. Although it was a place of its own and close, with people who somehow surrounded the act, but I really I don’t want it to be interpreted I am joking about situations that are very difficult for many Uruguayans and especially for the police, who face crime every day and who risk their lives,” he concluded.
