The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, admitted on Thursday that in the portfolio they were aware that Sebastián Marset was a dangerous drug trafficker when the passport was processed, but he asserted that there was no international requisition on him at that moment.

At a press conference in Tacuarembó, Heber insisted that they adhered to the law when they gave him the document that allowed Marset to get out of a jail in Dubai and go on the run (status in which he currently remains).

He added that the issue “clarified in the instance that we had in the interpellation, which lasted 10 hours. Some seem not to have heard or read the shorthand version. We were very clear in that instance and we have nothing to add or take away from what we said.”.

“The passport that leaves abroad is managed by the Foreign Ministry, it is printed in Civil Identification. The records are sought in the Scientific Police and in 24 hours it returns to be issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because the consul signs that passport”, and then he stressed that this is not the point under discussion because “we must blame each other” Heber added.

The passport was legally given. With the Monday newspaper, in March, we knew there was a requirement, but when it was issued in November there was none. And there was no investigation (…) We knew that she was a person who was linked to drug trafficking, ”she remarked.
