Last Friday, June 3, legislators Elías Varas and Jorge Coayla resigned from the Peru Libre caucus. Another congressman who joined this list is the parliamentarian and former Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation Oscar Zea. The legislative group was made up of 17 members nowadays. The withdrawal of these three members from the party founded by Vladimir Cerron followed that of other co-religionists who separated weeks ago.
In July 2021, when the new legislators entered to exercise their functions in the legislative Palace, Free Peru occupied 37 seats and it was the bench with the largest number of members. However, this situation has changed.

Peru Libre is “strengthened” and does not “affect the bench”
In communication with the perulibrista congressman Wilson Quispehe pointed out that his bench will continue with its agenda and that the departure of Zea does not affect the match. Likewise, he stressed that the former minister has not been close to the political organization.
“It is Mr. Óscar’s own decision and it does not affect the bench and the party at all. There has also not been so much rapprochement between the man and the party and he has always expressed it. He had an agenda attached to the teachers’ caucus,” he indicated for La República.

For his part, the parliamentarian Jaime Quito He explained that the ruling party is more “strengthened” after the departure of the experulibristas.
“As an organization, we came out much stronger. We are going to make a clear statement of our proposal, of our definition as a socialist left-wing caucus, as we have stated. I think we are going to enter into a political and ideological debate from a more oriented and qualified way of the members that Peru Libre has”, pointed out to this newspaper.
When asked about the Magisterial Block of National Concertation —a party made up of former congressmen from Peru Libre—, Quispe stated that “they are within their rights.”

“The fact that they have formed a bench apart from Peru Libre does not indicate that it can subtract us from the votes. It doesn’t affect anything,” he said.
Instead, Quito was reluctant to comment on his position on the new group, only stating that they “are responsible for the decisions they make.”

Both congressmen stressed that the function of the party will always seek to favor the population.
“Our bills that we are going to present will always be born in favor of the clamor of the population. It will always go in that direction,” Wilson Quispe pointed out.
“There is greater definition regarding the positions that we are proposing, which are in defense and in the rights of the people as a whole,” added Jaime Quito.
It is important to report that the communication with both parliamentarians took place before knowing the resignation of the ex-pre-Librists Elías Varas and Jorge Coayla.

Departures
Before Óscar Zea resigned from the ruling party, Jorge Marticorena withdrew from Peru Libre after censorship by former Labor Minister Betssy Chávez. His decision was based on the fact that his presence in the match was “unsustainable”.
Prior to this, 10 parliamentarians also resigned from Peru Libre after the election of the members of the Constitutional Court. They were Alex Paredes, Pasión Dávila, Francis Paredes, Elizabeth Medina, Segundo Quiroz, Paul Gutiérrez, Edgar Tello, Germán Tacuri, Katy Ugarte Y Lucinda Vasquez. They formed the Bloc Magisterial de Concertación Nacional.
This June 3, Varas Meléndez and Coayla Juárez presented their “irrevocable resignation” to the spokesman for Peru Libre, Waldemar Cerrón.
