The Month of Dance brings with it the revival of the successful work “Tree”, a poetic/dance piece that will transmit its powerful message about the destructive interaction of humanity with nature. The work, which debuted in 2018 and was re-released several times, returns in the Providencia space of the NESCAFÉ DE LAS ARTES THEATER on Sunday, April 23.
Known for its erratic movements related to the gloominess of life, the Japanese dance piece butoh exposes an intense political/poetic performance through the body to raise awareness of our interaction with nature.
“The ‘Tree’ piece is a creation that provokes honest and clearly structured associations. Its exploration of nature with the forest, with the tree, takes us on a journey into the cycle of life, but also makes us feel the pain of our interventions in nature, all expressed in a very clear, minimal and delicate way, with a very precise technique and also in a very poetic way,” says Makiko Tominaga, a butoh dancer and choreographer.
The play stars Chilean actor/dancer Álvaro Pizarro, who is also a director and a teacher and researcher of body language to create his own approach to physical/corporal work in the performing arts. The mixture of different disciplines such as butoh, martial arts, physical theater, contemporary dance, street theater and acrobatics, in parallel to his participation in more than 30 works, including theater, butoh dance or performances both in Chile, Latin America, the United States and Europe.
In 2018, the artist formed his company Árbol Danza, whose first creation, “Árbol”, was premiered at the III Butoh International Festival, to later be programmed by different festivals and theaters. In addition, the work has been presented in Mexico, Germany and Costa Rica.
The artistic sheet of “Árbol” includes the original music by Jorge Aliaga, the cello interpretation by Isidora O’Ryan, the lighting by Pedro Vilarnau, the sound and multimedia by Diego Elgueta, the costume design by Beatriz Zamora, the design makeup by Carola Lucavecci, graphic design by Macarena Escobar, recording by Luis Miguel Méndez and production by María Paz Durán and Sandra García.
