ANEP and CARU will promote environmental education in study centers

The agreement signed between the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP) and the Administrative Commission of the Uruguay River (CARU) will promote the development of environmental education and promote the appreciation of the historical, geographical and environmental importance of the Uruguay River and its ecosystems, in particularly its flora and fauna. Both institutions will cooperate in the development of projects to teach in study centers.

The signing of the cooperation framework agreement took place on Tuesday 28, at the ANEP headquarters, with the presence of the president of that organization, Robert Silva; and the presidents of the Uruguayan delegation to CARU, Mario Ayala, and of the Argentine delegation, José Eduardo Lauritto.

joint action

In this way, both institutions will cooperate in the joint development of educational programs and projects in the study centers, with an emphasis on environmental education. In addition, it is proposed to value the historical, geographical and environmental significance of the Uruguay River.

This is a way of opening the educational system to the different actors in society, because there can be no education that develops its actions and impacts people’s lives, without interaction and relationships, Silva said.

He added that the curricular transformation that will begin in March includes the Environmental Sciences subject, from a transversal perspective, throughout the educational system, with an emphasis on geography. Valuing natural resources, caring for the environment and sustainable development are important today, he remarked.

For the president of ANEP, there are many potentialities to be developed through joint action between both institutions. The agreement will also allow progress in specific agreements to implement them in public schools, technical schools and high schools, he said.

In the same sense, Ayala valued the exchange with ANEP and considered that in this way knowledge will be generated regarding environmental culture in interaction with society.
