They murdered a merchant and injured his wife during robbery in the Peñarol neighborhood

A 63-year-old man was murdered this Sunday in a warehouse located in the vicinity of Volta and Newton, in the Peñarol neighborhood, reported Montevideo Portal and confirmed The Observer. This is the second homicide recorded in the area in less than 24 hours.

The attack occurred around 10:40 when a criminal entered with the intention of raiding the premises and threatened the victim and a 53-year-old woman who was in the store with a firearm. The man was wounded by a shot that left him lifeless before the police intervened while the woman, who was shot in the back, had to be transferred to a nearby health center.

According to the police report accessed by El Observador, after the events, the criminal fled on his way to the local fair. There were no video surveillance cameras at the site.

The case is being investigated by the Scientific Police and the Investigations area of ​​Operational Zone III of Montevideo.

It is the seventh homicide so far in May in the neighborhood. In total, a total of 12 have been registered in 2022, two more than in all of 2021.
