Before going into the approach, which I hope is objective regarding the presidential elections scheduled for May 19 of next year, let me repeat the following concept: “Politics is the science of the possible.”
Why do I reiterate this scientific criterion, which has been said on countless occasions by the most knowledgeable political scientists and published in texts after offering their lectures?
The moral of such an accurate opinion I understand perfectly. And I summarize it as follows: The politician who does not assimilate, much less knows how to put into practice -with a clear strategy that reaches the heart of his followers- what politics raises as a science, is a failure.
The long-awaited 2023, a pre-election year, has already entered. In the first half of this year, due to experiences, signs of electoral agreements will begin to be observed.
It is clear, and the main candidates for the Presidency of the Republic themselves know it, that none of the candidates will emerge unscathed (in the May elections) in the first round… it is practically impossible!
Let’s write it down precisely: none of the three main political organizations (Modern Revolutionary Party, People’s Force and Dominican Liberation Party), has a chance to win the electoral referendum in the first round.
Also point out, because nothing can be ruled out in politics, that if one of those three parties manages to formalize electoral agreements before six months of the presidential elections, -but with solid agreements-, a great phenomenon could be registered: that organization triumphs in the first ballots.
Political leaders, based on the reality presented by the current complex electoral landscape, have to understand what real electoral alliances mean.
Hopefully they can understand, and become aware of it, the following theoretical concept: “A political alliance is the temporary union of two or more parties in order to compete together in the electoral competition presenting the same candidacy in all or some of the levels of government and in all or some of the categories of positions to be chosen”.
In some legislations the right to form electoral alliances among themselves or with parties or other political organizations authorized to present candidates is agreed.
Was it well understood?
In recent elections, held in Chile, Colombia and Brazil, none of the candidates won in the first round. But in the second round, alliances were signed… and presidential victories were achieved!
The same could happen in our country, but if the strategies are applied based on knowing that politics is the science of the possible.
