Hudbay mining company in Cusco denounces that its dump trucks were set on fire

The Hudbay mining company reported acts of violence at the facilities of the Constancia Mining Unit, located in the province of Chumbivilcas, in Cusco. Protesters set dump trucks on fire.

It reported that “at approximately 3:00 pm, a group of protesters approached the facilities of the Constancia Mining Unit in order to make their claims heard regarding the current political situation. At the end of the mobilization, some people violently entered Hudbay Peru property, setting fire to equipment and damaging facilities. These damages affected important machinery for the tailings dam and trucks for transporting critical inputs for the operation,” the mining company added in a statement.

Days ago, subjects set fire to vehicles in the Antapaccay mining camp, operated by Glencore, and later attacked a drinking water pump. These acts that harm private property occur in the midst of protests that are taking place in different parts of the country and that have caused several mining companies to report that they have difficulties transporting their production.
