“Salaverrina power” program receives Maritime Award of the Americas 2022

The “Salaverrina Power” social program of Salaverry Terminal Internacional (STI) was recognized with the 2022 Maritime Award of the Americas in the Empowerment and Equality category, which was awarded by the Secretariat of the OAS Inter-American Committee on Ports in collaboration with other strategic partners in the sector.

The initiative was financed by the Salaverry Multipurpose Port Terminal Social Fund, a non-profit civil association created within the framework of the port concession contract and which operates thanks to the economic resources generated by STI. It should be noted that these projects, focused on education, health and infrastructure, are financed with this Fund, which receives 3% of the sales generated by the port on a monthly basis.

Julio Pflucker, Administration and Finance Manager of the Salaverry Terminal Internacional (STI) concessionaire and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Salaverry Social Fund, received the award at the XXX Latin American Congress of Ports, organized by the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA). last week in Santos, Brazil. According to Pflucker, the objective of “Salaverrina Power” was to get the leaders of the district’s soup kitchens to start projects that improve their quality of life and that of their community.

“The leaders received training in soft skills, female empowerment, personal development, leadership, and business creation, through strategic alliances with state institutions. In this last year they developed business projects and competed for seed capital to make them a reality. Finally, the 04 initiatives presented were financed with more than 150,000 soles”, said Pflucker. In addition, he indicated that in seven months of having implemented their ventures they have already managed to improve their income for the benefit of their families.

Carmen Piminchumo Gonzales from the “Coco y Chanel” Spa -one of the projects that obtained the capital- commented that thanks to the program she learned how to set up a business, what to take into account when investing and how to generate profitability, among other things. “As a single mother, she has helped me pay for my children’s education and support my home. I am very happy with who I am and what I am achieving, ”she maintained.
