President Gabriel Boric described this Monday as “unacceptable” two events that occurred over the weekend in the framework of the campaign for the plebiscite of the proposal for a new Constitution, which will be held on September 4. In addition, the President called to “listen to those who think differently.”
The first of the events occurred on Saturday night in Valparaíso, when the collective Las Indetectables carried out a sexual performance with a Chilean flag, in the context of an event organized by Approvebo Transformar. The second event, meanwhile, occurred on Sunday in the Alameda, in Santiago, when a cart driver ran over a group of cyclists, after demonstrations were found in support of the Rejection and Approval.

“Over the past weekend, in recent days, within the framework of the final days of the plebiscite campaigns, in the historical moment in which we are, where we play so much as a country, we have seen acts that are unacceptable, we saw it in Valparaíso and also here at the front (in the Alameda),” said President Boric.
“I want, as President of the Republic, to make a call today so that we do not lose sight of the fact that regardless of the result of next Sunday, we are going to continue building a country between all of us. That is the mandate of our government. And therefore, I make a heartfelt and convinced call that it is necessary for us to once again listen to those who think differently”, continued the Head of State.
Likewise, the President urged to “make the effort” of “not always trying to see the opponent’s argument in the worst possible way, but to try to learn something from it. Speak the truth, recognizing the room for improvement that there may be in our own positions.
“May we all be humble enough to understand that the truth is not the exclusive patrimony of a certain option, but that we necessarily build it in political and social dialogue, between all of us,” Boric emphasized.
The President issued these statements in an act to ratify Convention 190 of the International Labor Organization (ILO), on the elimination of violence and harassment at work.
