Murders, cell phones and drugs: this is how the investigation began that allowed 17 people to be charged

Five shots from a firearm went through the main door of the house, which was open. A 42-year-old man and his mother were shot as a result of several impacts. He died.

The prosecution investigated him as a hired killer, and charged four men. It happened on the night of February 12, 2022 in a house in Artigas.

The investigators were at the beginning of an operation that would later be called Sauceand that led this Saturday to the imputation of 17 people for crimes related to drug trafficking. The Anti-Drug Brigade raided 28 homes in five apartments and arrested twenty suspects.

The Ministry of the Interior assures that it dismantled an organization that was dedicated to drug micro-trafficking throughout the country and who, in turn, had ties to a gang of drug traffickers in Montevideo.

Justice ordered this Saturday effective preventive detention for 15 of the 17 accused. The rest will go to house arrest because a man has a gunshot wound and the forensic doctor understood that it was not possible for the accused to be in prison; and a young woman was charged with drug trafficking assistance, a misdemeanor among those being considered in this instance.

They all fulfilled various roles in the organization. The prosecution and the police got to them thanks to two cell phones that the troops seized as a result of the murder in Artigas, and another more recent case of hired assassins in Maldonado, they told The Observer fiscal sources.

The skills These two devices served to reveal the links between those involved and their movements in Uruguay and Brazil. The organization moved cocaine from Brazil and then delivered buds to people in that country.

The first seizures were in that Artigas home, located on the outskirts of the city, in the Cerro Ejido neighborhood. The police recovered a 9-millimeter pod and seized a kilo of cocaine, half a kilo of marijuana, a 32-caliber revolver with six cartridges, a precision scale and $30,399.

The victim was dedicated to the sale of narcotics, supplying drugs to the mouths of Artigas and in other parts of the country, reported the Ministry of the Interior.

For the Sauce operation, the investigators carried out anti-drug procedures in Artigas, Montevideo, San José, Canelones, Maldonado, Rivera and Rocha. Drugs were seized there (base paste, cocaine and marijuana), a total of $366,748, US$5,400, six firearms, 61 cell phones and vehicles.
