Las Bambas: Challhuahuacho district demands dialogue from the State to find a solution to the conflict

Businessmen, entrepreneurs, associations, organizations, merchants and citizens of the Challhuahuacho district, Cotabambas province, Apurímac region, demanded that the State assume its mediating role by establishing a dialogue table with the mining company MMG Las Bambas and the communities in conflict.

Through a statement, they indicated that the only objective is the solution of the conflict that led to the paralysis of the mining operation and, therefore, to the economic activities that were carried out directly and indirectly in said jurisdiction, as well as in the region already Nacional level.

“We urge our central government authorities, the Las Bambas mining company, communities to reach agreements on the current legal framework, and prioritize this problem, to seek a sustainable and immediate solution”they pointed out.

Likewise, they referred that the State should not limit itself to recognizing and granting rights to citizens, but should establish mechanisms to guarantee economic stability, for which they questioned the fact that to date it has not sought alternative solutions so that social conflicts cease through the dialogue.

Similarly, they said to be “conscious” and understand that the mining company has commitments with the communities affected by Fuerabamba, Huancuire, Pumamarca, Chila, Choaquere and Chuicunibut that does not mean that the latter “stop abruptly” the economy and development of the district for more than 45 days.

Finally, they demanded that the State no longer postpone the solution to the conflict that currently exists in Challhuahuacho and demanded that the State be represented by “competent officials who have decision-making powers”so that they seek an immediate solution.
