La jueza Rivas también tenía previsto conocer dos solicitudes más sobre devolución de bienes relacionados al general Juan Carlos Torres Robiou, exdirector del Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Turística (Cestur)

Judge refuses to return vehicles owned by Girón, from the Coral case

A company with which Giron financed the vehicles was the one that requested that the seizure be lifted, since, although they are in the name of the accused, they belong to the company.

After analyzing the situation, Judge Rivas, of the Sixth Investigating Court of the National District, understood that these assets should not be returned, for which she rejected the petition.

When speaking with the press, the Litigation coordinator at Specialized Attorney for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), Mirna Ortiz said that these assets should remain seized because they are linked to the corruption case that is taking its course in court.

“The judges understood that certain assets that have been seized by the Public Ministry cannot be returned to those who claim to have the quality to claim their position because they are assets that are linked to this corruption scheme and that are subject to the confiscation of the Public Ministry”, he maintained.

“The result will have to wait for the process, the preliminary hearing, the trial where the Public Ministry will determine that these assets must effectively be in favor and benefit of the Dominican State,” added the anti-corruption prosecutor.

At today’s hearing, Judge Rivas also planned to hear two more requests for the return of property related to General Juan Carlos Torres Robiou, former director of the Specialized Body for Tourist Security (Cestur), also involved in the case; and to a person who is not accused, but has a property jointly with one of the defendants.

For next September 9, the mafistrada Rivas will start with the preliminary hearing of this case where 48 people are involved, between physical and legal. The file indicates that Adán Cáceres Silvestre created a corporate network to, together with other people, subtract 4,000 million pesos from the Specialized Corps of Presidential Security (Cusep), the Specialized Corps of Tourist Security (Cestur) and the National Council for Children and adolescence
