The Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, spoke about Uruguay this Sunday in an interview with the Argentine newspaper Clarín, during a visit to the neighboring River Plate country, and assured that he admires the Uruguayan citizens.

“A society that you admire?” Boric was asked in a kind of ping pong to close the interview.

“I admire this, I don’t know how it’s going to go down, but I really like the Uruguayans,” replied the leftist president who just a few days ago took power after overcoming far-right José Antonio Kast.

Additionally, he took advantage of the visit to Argentine soil, on the weekend that marks the 40th anniversary of the tragic Malvinas war, to claim that the overseas territory is property of Argentina. “I grew up closer to Argentina than to the center of Chile, with permanent trips to Río Gallegos, Río Turbio, Río Grande, Tolhuin, Puerto Almanza, Ushuaia. And, therefore, I feel a deep brotherhood with the Argentine people from a very young age”, Boric began by saying.

Then, he expressed that he “clearly and decisively” supports the claim of the Argentine State regarding the archipelago, and added that he understands that this type of conflict must be resolved through peaceful and diplomatic means.
