Questions from the population and pressure from the media made it so that, after a reconsideration of the first vote, the Plenary of the approved the disqualification for 10 years for the exercise of public office against the legislator who is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged crime of rape against a worker in his parliamentary office.

The request for reconsideration of the vote last Tuesday, in which 21 abstentions saved the congressman, was approved yesterday with 105 votes in favor. After a debate in which Díaz used his mother to try to evade the disqualification, it was finally approved with 71 votes in favor, 4 abstentions and one vote against, issued by the defendant himself.

His pleas were not enough to convince his colleagues. Only Darwin Espinoza (Popular Action), Cruz María Zeta, Raúl Huamán (Popular Force) and (not grouped, and expelled from APP, like Díaz) insisted on shielding by abstaining.

Díaz’s case became public after, on July 27, 2021, a worker from his office denounced him for having sexually abused her when she was under the influence of alcohol.
