Elections 2022: political organizations must register until June 14 to participate in elections

The (JNE) recalled that next Tuesday June 14 is the deadline for political organizations to achieve their full registration with the Registry of Political Organizations (ROP) of the electoral body to be able to participate in the .

This is stipulated by Law 31357, approved by the Congress of the Republic and published on October 31, the pertinent part of which is included in the electoral schedule for these elections approved by the JNE.

According to this rule, political groups that were in the process of registering with the ROP could exceptionally participate in the internal elections, subject to reaching their final registration by the date indicated in order to present the lists of candidates and regional formulas chosen. to the Special Electoral Juries (JEE) corresponding.

In this way, the political groups to intervene in the Elections 2022 they must have complied with all the requirements derived from the registration procedure, that is, have a list of affiliates, minutes of constitution of party committees, foundation minutes, party statute, electoral regulations, among others.

In the case of political parties, the number of members is not less than 0.1% of the total number of citizens on the list approved for the last national electoral processwhile the number of committees is not less than 1/3 of the country’s provinces and located in 4/5 of the existing departments.

Meanwhile, regional movements require a number of affiliates equivalent to 1% of the electoral register approved for the last regional process of the department where they are carried out and, in terms of committees, they need a figure not less than 4/5 of the provinces of the corresponding jurisdictionexcept in Callao and Metropolitan Lima, where the number is equal to the provinces.

Registration procedure

To achieve their registration, the political organizations initially reserve the denomination of their names. Then, when submitting the request for registration in the ROP accompanied by the documents indicated above, the Citizen Services Office or the delegated registrars of the Decentralized Offices (OD) of the JNE verify compliance with formal requirements.

Next, the ROP or the aforementioned delegated registrars proceed to qualify the substantive requirements and, if applicable, issue the corresponding summary, so that for five days any citizen can file an objection. If none of these appeals are mediated or resolved in favor of the group, the registration proceeds.
