After threats of a possible armed attack by members of the cell of the Venezuelan criminal organization “Tren de Aragua” against Carabineros in the Cerro Chuño sector, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, announced that he will travel to Arica to “fight against organized crime.
“These threats are analyzed and taken with complete seriousness, but, above all, they allow decisions to be made to guarantee the safety of citizens and also of each and every one of the Carabineros de Chile officials, which is what has been done in this occasion,” Monsalve told Radio Biobio.
“During the course of this week I will be in the Arica and Parinacota Region to create a coordination space for all State institutions to fight against organized crime,” he said.
“Several members of the Tren de Aragua criminal organization who operated committing criminal acts in Chile have been identified, arrested and taken to jail, in fact, their main leader in our country known by the nickname of ‘star’ , today he is in jail,” undersecretary Monsalve pointed out, noting that “as a government we have allocated 12 billion pesos to strengthen all the capacities of all state institutions that have the capacity to fight in matters of auditing, controlling , persecute organized crime and the regions of Arica, Antofagasta and Tarapacá”.
“That is why I want to convey the determination of the Government of President Gabriel Boric to fight decisively against organized crime to protect the security of our country and its citizens,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the governor of the Arica and Parinacota region, Jorge Díaz, will meet with the Undersecretary of the Interior. The regional authority pointed out that in the area there is a need to control border crossings. And he asked for a greater police force in the affected communes. In addition, he accused that, according to reports from police officials, the judicial system would not be in accordance with the complex situation, since many perpetrators of crimes would not remain in preventive detention.
