The fire started on Wednesday afternoon and worsened at night due to weather conditions.

A fire was registered in a private property in the Las Vegas spa, kilometer 52 of the Interbalnearia Route, on the night of this Wednesday, informed The Observer the person in charge of the Departmental Emergency Coordination Center (Cecoed) of Canelones, Leonardo Herou. The images of this fire went viral on social networks because residents of the area filmed how the fire spread.
According to Herou, the private property was abandoned and in “very poor condition” in terms of the amount of vegetation it had and the fodder which constitutes natural fuel for the fire to start and spread. “He had notices from the Administration for quite some time,” confirmed Herou.
The fire started on Wednesday afternoon but “complicated” at night due to the wind that caused it to spread, Herou said.. Both Firefighters and Cecoed personnel were working to put it out throughout the night. In turn, on the morning of this Thursday it was reactivated but was quickly controlled.

The property had 40 hectares and in total 25 burnedHerou confirmed, noting that none of the surrounding houses were affected.
The Fire Department is working on identifying the causes of the fire but according to Herou it is “human factors”. “Human activity is always behind these fires. Be it negligence or intentionality. If there is no human activity, fires are not generated,” he assured.
