On Tuesday, August 30, the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Fernando Mattos, accompanied by government authorities and the president of the Uruguayan Football Association, Ignacio Alonso, will present the “Lana Celeste a Qatar” project.

Like the Uruguayan Soccer Team, Uruguayan wool competes with the best in the world, which is why it was decided that the players wear suits made with the highest quality Uruguayan Merino wool during the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The project, which will be launched on Tuesday, August 30 under the name “Lana Celeste a Qatar”, will be an opportunity to promote Uruguay as an exporter of differentiated and high-value natural products, and as a benchmark in fashion and sustainable design.

Promote Uruguayan wool

The objective is to promote Uruguayan wool through the image of the soccer team and to be recognized as a natural, renewable, recyclable product, produced in a sustainable manner, with certified processes and products, friendly to the environment and the well-being of animals.

In addition, the use of wool in Qatar -a state with a very hot climate- will show that it offers optimal thermal insulation compared to other natural and synthetic fibers, which is why it can be used both in summer and winter.

The use of superfine Merino wool, less than 18 microns for these suits, makes it possible to produce lightweight Super 130’s fabrics, weighing 260 grams per meter, that adapt to the climatic conditions of Qatar, with excellent comfort on the skin and following the trend of international fashion.

The “Light Blue Wool to Qatar” project is a joint project involving the Uruguayan Wool Secretariat (SUL), the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA), the Uruguayan Ultrafine Wool Innovation Regional Consortium (CRILU), the Uruguayan hairdressing industry represented in the Chamber of Commerce, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), the Sports Secretariat and the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), with the support of Uruguay XXI, which works to promote worldwide of the sector brand Uruguay Wools
