Two people arrested for WhatsApp scams

The National Police, through its High Technology Crime and Crime Investigation Department (Dicat), placed a woman and a man under separate arrest for the Stole of the total sum of 80,000 pesos to two people, through a fraud through the WhatsApp instant messaging application.

According to a press release, they are Soranny Almonte López and Adolfo M. de León Rodríguez.

Almonte López was arrested in the Hermanas Mirabal province, when she was about to withdraw the sum of 15,000 pesos obtained through extortion against a citizen, via WhatsApp, being threatened that intimate images of her would be published, if she did not agree to pay the aforementioned money.

While, De León Rodríguez, was arrested in the Santo Domingo Este municipality, for being the beneficiary of a deposit of 65,000 pesos, the product of a scam to a citizen, also by WhatsApp, where they pretended to be a niece of the victim, using a fraudulent maneuver.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for the corresponding legal purposes.
