Today is the day of the week from the 6th to the 12th of February remembers the National Day of Struggle of Indigenous Peoples. National Day of Struggle for Indigenous Peoples

On February 7th, the National Day of the Struggle of Indigenous Peoples is remembered. The date was established by Law nº 11.696, of 2008, in memory of the death of a Guarani native who led a revolt against the Portuguese and Spaniards. Sepé Tiaraju was killed in 1756 for protecting his land from colonists. He, even today, is much honored in the region of Rio Grande do Sul, since, if it were not for his resistance in the battle that caused his death, the territory of this state would hardly be annexed to Brazil.

Currently, the struggle of indigenous peoples consists of defending the demarcation of lands. In this context, the discussion of the Time Frame enters. This thesis argues that only the lands that were in the possession of the indigenous people on October 5, 1988, the date of the promulgation of the Federal Constitution, could be used by the natives today. The Federal Supreme Court (STF) began voting on this process in 2021.

90 years of Rogério Duprat

Also on February 7th, is the birthday of composer Rogério Duprat, co-founder of the Tropicália Movement. Duprat was born in 1932 and initially had an erudite education. However, in the late 1960s, he identified with the tropicalist movement, which aimed to break any kind of ties between classical and popular music, in addition to reflecting on the purpose of Brazilian music after years of successful bossa music. new. Duprat composed songs by several artists of the movement, among them Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Os Mutantes. In addition, in the course of his career, the composer has also participated in music for the cinema and for advertising campaigns. Duprat died in 2006, aged 74, from bladder cancer.

Baron of Rio Branco

February 10 marks the 110th anniversary of the death of the diplomat, lawyer, historian and geographer from Rio de Janeiro, José Maria da Silva Paranhos Júnior, the Baron of Rio Branco. Considered one of the greatest heroes of the Brazilian homeland, Barão do Rio Branco was one of those responsible for drawing the map of Brazil as we know it today, defining its borders. In addition, he was in charge of the Treaty of Petrópolis, which annexed the territory of Acre to Brazil without the need for any kind of armed conflict.

The Baron of Rio Branco held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs during the term of three different presidents of the Republic, from 1902 to 1912. His achievements made him, even today, the patron of Brazilian diplomacy. Much of his skill as a diplomat he inherited from his father, Visconde do Rio Branco, who handled diplomatic affairs with the Brazilian empire. The Baron of Rio Branco died in 1912, at the age of 66.

Pepeu Gomes

Pedro Anibal de Oliveira Gomes, better known as Pepeu Gomes, turns 70 on February 7th. One of the members of Novos Baianos, Pepeu Gomes has been playing since he was little and was once considered one of the best guitarists in the world. With influences from Brazilian music, psychedelic rock, tropicália and North American music, Pepeu played with several artists, including Gilberto Gil and Gal Costa. In 2022, Pepeu remains active. The Novos Baianos last reunited for a tour in 2015, which lasted until 2018.
