They close the contract for the construction of the double track of route 5

Uruguayan companies Stiler and Incoci (Route 5 Road Consortium) signed this Tuesday the contract with the National Corporation for the Development (CND)pFor the construction and maintenance of the double track on route 5in a section located north of Florida, from kilometer 95 to kilometer 133.

This is the second contract signed under the modality of Rehabilitation, Maintenance and Financing Contracts (Cremaf). The work will begin in September and will require an investment of some US$ 100 million. The execution period is estimated at two years, and it is expected to employ an average of around 150 people, including qualified personnel and workers in the area.

The Cremaf contracts involve carrying out the work in two years, subsequent maintenance and repayment in 10 years.

“I think it is a smart modality. It is important not to cut any instrument. PPPs are important, and obviously these Cremaf, which are smaller-scale, more agile projects, have allowed access in record time”, he told The Observer Stiler’s president, Marcos Taranto.

The work of the double track of route 5 is divided into four sections. In two of them already underway, the lane duplication works will be carried out by private firms that already had contracts in force with the State. This is the part that goes from Canelones to the town of Mendoza in Florida included in the concession that Hernández and González have, and from Sarandí Grande to Durazno in charge of Ramón C. Álvarez.

The two intermediate sections are the ones that were tendered last December under the Cremaf modality. The section between km 69 and km 95 was awarded to the Pietroboni Berkes consortium and the rest to Consorcio Vial Ruta 5.

The total investment planned for this route is about US$ 300 million between the four sections.

Double track route 1 in Colonia

The section that is projected to be built to complete the double lane of Route 1 in Colonia extends for about 30 kilometers between the Tarariras radial and the departmental capital. The Cremaf contract modality will also be used.

The Minister of Transport and Public Works, José Luis Falero, told The Observer that “practically everything is ready” to make the call that corresponds to a first section, which is going to be tendered first “so as not to waste time.”

“And for the later section an alternative plan is being evaluated. We cannot do the work if we do not remove the palm trees. An alternative is now being studied, which is the old route 1. It is quite advanced and we hope that before the end of the month we will be able to define if this alternative route really allows us to build a double lane in another belt”, he affirmed.

Double track between Pan de Azúcar and Rocha

The other work by Cremaf is the doubling of Route 9 in a 105-kilometre section that runs between Pan de Azúcar and Rochawhere an investment of some US$ 310 million is expected

The international tender carried out by the Uruguayan Road Corporation (CVU) was awarded to the Grupo Vial del Este consortium, made up of the companies Traxpalco, Colier and Hernández y González. Works will begin in October and are expected to be fully completed between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. The contract is expected to be signed before the end of the month.
