The citizen Isidro Aracata Mamani (62) was urgently transferred to the Manuel Núñez Butrón hospital, but unfortunately he died on the way due to the seriousness of his injuries. After that the spirits of the protesters were exacerbated. The police officers left the Ilave police station and took refuge inside the Peruvian Army headquarters.

Attack disguised as protest

Before 8 a.m., unknown individuals set fire to the Ilave police station and then set fire to the offices of the Tacna Municipal Savings and Credit Fund, the Cusco Municipal Fund and the Arequipa Fund, as well as the Mi Banco and Credinka branches and a apothecary located to one side.

Those in charge of said office in Tacna have not yet quantified the economic losses. The criminals entered after breaking the glass partitions and bars. They destroyed equipment, burned documents and put up a “long live the strike” sign. They accused these financial entities of being oppressors of the people.

The Peruvian Federation of Municipal Savings and Credit Banks issued a statement rejecting the violent acts. “We call for the protesters to calm down since the municipal savings banks are the financial arm of micro and small entrepreneurs and the town’s banks, of the most disadvantaged citizens and of the entire entrepreneurial class of the country,” they said.

They added that acts of vandalism only generate the majority rejection of the citizens, for which they call for tranquility and peaceful demonstrations.
