MIAMI, United States. — The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant, the largest of its kind in Cuba, rejoined the national electricity system this Thursday, reported the Electric Union (UNE).
The repair of the thermoelectric plant took five days, a period in which numerous blackouts in various provinces of the country.
The Electric Union indicated yesterday that the breakdown in the boiler of the CTE Guiteras had been solved and that the first tests yielded positive results.
“If there is stability, it is expected that shortly after 8:00 pm the synchronization with the SEN will take place. From that moment on, Guiteras will gradually recover its generation capacity,” the statement said.
In statements collected by the official newspaper GranmaMisbel Palmero Aguilar, general director of the plant, highlighted that “it was a commendable work of the entire group and, in particular, of the operators of the Maintenance Company for Power Plants in Matanzas.”
The director explained that the repair actions were carried out “in an area of difficult access” and where “it is very dangerous to undertake any movement or proceed.”
“This is what is expected in the country. In the midst of so many hardships we spend at least having electricity. We will see how long the repair lasts, ”said Isabel Rodríguez, professor at the Sancti Spíritus Faculty of Medical Sciences, on social networks.
In his note on the repair of the Antonio Guiteras, Granma He admitted that the faults registered in that plant have generated numerous blackouts throughout the country.
“The irregular situation due to technical problems, both in the Guiteras and in other generating plants of the system, as well as the departure of other units due to scheduled maintenance actions, has resulted in annoying interruptions of the electrical service to the population.”
The electricity crisis that the country is going through adds to the shortage of food, medicine and other basic necessities, factors that, together with the demands for freedom and change, influenced the outbreak of the anti-government protests on July 11, 2021.
