Tendered projects called ‘turnkey’ total $598 million

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has awarded 16 projects that will be executed under the ‘turnkey’ system, in which the contractor contributes the funds to build the work and then the State cancels the debt.

To date, the amount of the projects that already have a designated contractor, after completing the bidding stage, reaches $598.8 million.

The MOP plans to tender 25 ‘turnkey’ contracts, with an estimated investment of 1.16 billion dollars, but the final amount will depend on the offers received by the institution.

The most recently awarded contracts are for the expansion of the Transístmica highway, from the community of Villa Grecia to the sector known as the Don Bosco bridge. This project will be developed by the company Rodsa, which was also awarded the construction of the sewage system in the community of Macaracas, in the province of Los Santos, for 28.7 million dollars.

Also on the list is the contract for the El Llano – Puerto Cartí highway, in the Guna Yala region, delivered to the companies Transeq SA and Constructora Pacífico for 21.8 million dollars.

Constructora Urbana SA (CUSA), in association with Toronto Global Holdings, will be responsible for the construction of the Pan-American highway from Yaviza to Pinogana, including bridges over the Chucunaque and Tuira rivers, in the province of Darién, by offering 41.2 million dollars.

CUSA and its partner also obtained the contract for the supply of 100 modular bridges for 78.9 million dollars and had been awarded the contract to build the vehicle interchange in the La Cabima sector, in North Panama, for 22.5 million dollars.

The Administrative Court of Public Procurement revoked the order issued by the MOP in the tender for the vehicle interchange, and awarded the contract to the Meco company for 21.7 million dollars.

In this process, magistrate Martín Wilson saved his vote and stated in the ruling that he did not agree with the decision adopted by the other magistrates of the court, noting that CUSA’s proposal was excluded from the second analysis in which the company was favored. Costa Rican.

Of the 16 contracts awarded, 4 were awarded to the company Ininco, 2 of them in association with another company and two alone.

The Panamanian company kept the contracts for the works on the Paso Canoas – Río Sereno and Piedra Candela highway, with a bid of 61.3 million dollars. It will also carry out improvements to the Boca Chica highway, in the district of San Lorenzo, for 21.8 million dollars.

Under the figure of the Ininco consortium, together with Constructora Urbana SA (CUSA), it will be in charge of the rehabilitation of the La Feria – Paunch beach road, via Big Creek, in Boca de Drago, for an amount of 81.9 million dollars.
