The statement attached by the parliamentarian says that the serious problems that the country is going through will not be resolved by a proposal like this.

The proposal

The pronouncement of Somos Perú comes after President Pedro Castillo presented to Parliament a proposal to submit the call for a Constituent Assembly to a referendum.

According to the proposal, which modifies article 207 of the Constitution, a special ballot will be included in the October municipal elections with the following question: Do you approve the call for a Constituent Assembly in charge of preparing a new Political Constitution?, with the alternatives : Yes or no”.

The official letter, signed by President Castillo and the head of the Cabinet, Aníbal Torres, indicates that “said referendum process will be autonomous and independent of the electoral process convened by Supreme Decree No. 001-2022-PCM” and “does not modify any rule” of said elections.
