Regulation of abortion for rape did not pass the first vote

70 votes are needed for the approval of the text. The plenary session of the Assembly took a recess.

Two months late has the National Assembly in its work on the approval of the regulation of the rape abortioncause that is legal since April 2021.

This February 17, 2022, the Plenary returned to session and, in a first votethe regulation did not reach 70 votes to be approved and go to the Executive.

In total, there were 66 votes in favor, 40 against and 27 abstentions.

Assemblywoman Johana Moreira asked the president of the Assembly, Guadalupe Llori, to make adjustments to the text and resume the vote. Llori gave him an hour.

What is voted on?

The regulation has standards that must ensure that the abortion in cases of rape accessible and fast for girls and women.
