During the months of April, May and June 2021 there were 1,156 births among girls under 14 years of age.

If this figure is compared with the same period in 2020, there is an increase of 22%, that is, 210 births.

According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics, (Dane) the babies that were born during the first semester of the year 2021 were conceived in the middle of the confinement derived by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Likewise, they revealed in a recent report that the age of paternity in most cases corresponds to people over 14 years of age; In other words, this would indicate that in many of the cases sexual abuse could be incurred.

The foregoing is consistent with the figures provided by the institute of legal medicine, which states that in the first 8 months of 2021, 5,554 medical-legal examinations have been carried out for the alleged crime of sexual abuse between boys and girls between 10 and 14 years of age.

Early pregnancies have biological and social consequences for mother and baby.

It should be remembered according to law 599 of 2000 in Colombia it is forbidden to have sexual relations with minors under 14 years of age; According to this rule, the penalties could range from 9 months to 13 years in prison.
