Impeachment of President Piñera already has a date: Senate will define constitutional indictment next Tuesday or Wednesday

The Senate agreed next Tuesday to review the constitutional accusation against President Sebastián Piñera for his link with the sale of the Dominga mining project.

This date is due to the fact that the Senate Board must be notified this Wednesday about the approval of the accusatory libel in the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies, so it has a period of 4 to 6 days to set the discussion and subsequent vote.

Due to this, the committees of the Upper House agreed that two special sessions will be held on Tuesday, the first one – from 09:00 to 13:30 hours – will be the report by the Secretary of the Senate within 30 minutes and the presentation of the deputies of the review Commission and of the defense of President Piñera, both for up to one hour. After that, there is a space for a reply and a 45-minute rejoinder to each of the parties.

In the afternoon block, which begins at 3:00 p.m. and lasts until full dispatch, the senators will have a period of 15 minutes to substantiate their position and be able to vote on the same Tuesday or Wednesday on this accusation against the President.

The Senate will decide as a jury and will limit itself to declaring whether or not the accused is guilty of what he is accused of, in a vote that will need approval by two thirds of the House, this is at least 29 favorable votes of the There are 43 seats that the opposition controls 24.

If approved – that is, declared guilty – Piñera will be removed from his position and will not be able to exercise public functions for the next 5 years.
