A Montevideo policeman is detained and will testify this Sunday before the prosecutor’s office in the framework of an investigation for a dubious procedure in La Teja.
This Saturday, a man heard noises in a house next to his – which is uninhabited – and saw a man causing damage trying to enter. Suspecting a possible theft, he called his neighbor, who is a police officer, to intervene.
In response to the request for help, the police officer went to the house in question, identified himself as such and gave the man the order to stop; seeing that he touched his waist, the policeman fired his regulation weapon.
According to the police report, the shot was “deterrent in the direction of the ground”, and then it is added that, seeing that the person – who did not have identification – “fell to the ground”, the officer called 911.
Now, the police officer –whose regulation weapon was seized– is under arrest and waiting to make a statement to the prosecution, given that when the doctors arrived at the scene they found that the man had a gunshot wound to the head.
The prosecution also ordered that security camera images of the place be studied and that the neighbor who called the police also testify.
