Nearly 1,000 Venezuelan migrants left this weekend from Ciudad Hidalgo, (Chiapas, southern Mexico), bound for the United States (USA). This is the first caravan of compatriots that entered irregularly this year through the Mexican border with Guatemala


A caravan of about 1,000 Venezuelan migrants left Ciudad Hidalgo, in Chiapas, southern Mexico, bound for the United States (USA). The end of the mobilization: work and better living conditions, despite the new immigration restrictions in the land of Uncle Sam.

This is the first caravan of Venezuelan migrants that entered irregularly this year through the Mexican border with Guatemala, who arrived in Tapachula located -about 38 kilometers from the border line-, to rest and then continue their journey to the US.

In front of the caravan, a group of migrants displayed a banner that read “SOS, Libertad y paz” as they continued their walk along the southern border of Mexico.

In this group travels the Venezuelan Miguel Garrido, who told EFE that their purpose is to be able to reach the United States.

However, they were waiting five days in Ciudad Hidalgo with the promise by the immigration authorities in the Aztec country that they would attend to them, but they were deceived, as they accused, for which they asked for help from buses to avoid inconvenience to the Mexican population in his passage through the country.

“We come with a group of migrants asking the (Mexican) government to please focus on the program we have here. We, here we go people with children who sold their houses, their cars. They have a business, they bring us here from town to town, we want them to please give us an answer in migration, which takes us from town to town so that we can make expenses,” said Miguel Garrido, who decided to migrate due to the economic and political crisis he is going through. Venezuela.

For his part, Iker Humberto, who is also in the caravan, denounced that the National Institute of Migration (INM) returned them to the international bridge between Mexico and Guatemala, for which they organized themselves in Ciudad Hidalgo and decided to walk to find the way. free to the northern border of Mexico.

Likewise, Estefany Madrid, another Venezuelan migrant, indicated that they decided to walk out of their own free will, without anyone forcing them, while she stated that they are going in peace, without protest and without affecting anyone.

“We are going in the true American dream, we have to abide by the rules or wait for the appointment, the thing is that they let us go through Mexico,” he said.

On the Ciudad Hidalgo-Tapachula highway, this caravan of migrants is guarded by units of the National Guard, the highway division, as well as by Chiapas and local police.
