The former governor and political leader Henrique Capriles rejected criticism on his participation in the May 25 elections, and pointed out that the unit platform must be articulated around a common agenda that exceeds abstention.
«The opposition unit is successful (…) when it has a schedule. To think that abstention is an alternative, after having lived it, that the important thing is to be united for nothing, it is little responsible for people, ”Capriles said in An interview With international media.
He said that the unit platform was created beyond an electoral coalition, but must work and advance as a policy articulator. “There is a disagreement that is clear, that it is obvious and notorious, because abstention is obvious that divides the opinion of Venezuelans.”
“Unity is to fight, it is not to stay in social networks writing (…) I think that is insufficient to change the government, achieve a political change or we are going to claim or strengthen the position we could achieve in 2024 by voting for Edmundo González.”
The former governor of Miranda, like other figures such as Manuel Rosales, departed from the line of the unitary platform of not participating in the elections of May 25. His nomination as a candidate for the National Assembly earned him the expulsion of First Justice.

For Capriles, you have to “open channels” of communication to reactivate a negotiation with Maduro that includes the release of political prisoners.

The former governor of Miranda said that electoral participation is an “unpopular current” within the opposition. «The abstention has been tried and ends up being nothing. That does not mean that I have to disrespect the people who disagree with my opinion.
According to Capriles, participation should not only be for the elections of May 25, but must extend to the constitutional reform “and any process that the Government raises us on the road.”
«I refuse to stop making the feeling of change feel alive, so I think you have to vote (…) Maduro every time we vote we make it difficult and I refuse to leave things easy for this government. It has been a very long fight where we have all put everything, ”he said.
In addition, the political leader justified his candidacy as a deputy to the National Assembly, nominated for a new time and union and change. He said that “it would be very comfortable” on his part if he had let others assume those applications. “Here you have to put themselves in front, not to be crouched, not play comfortably or stay with cross -arms (…) That is why I assumed participation not only in the exercise of the vote.”
Regarding the activation of the Union and Change Card, he indicated that he went into the force of change – for a direct request to the National Electoral Council.
He added that both groups were formally presented in 2021. “The Union and Change Card is to be able to give many people, in addition to the card of a new time (…) it will serve as umbrella to all of us who were in First Justice, today with a kidnapped card and prosecuted by Maduro government operators.”
