The attorney general imposed by the extinct constituent, Tarek William Saab, reported that the Public Ministry created a new program to serve the elderly; which has the name The Public Ministry protects the elderly and with which 696 people have been treated since last April and whose objective is to guarantee the human rights and access to justice of this sector of the population
He explained that this program, launched on April 20, arose after observing the increase in reports of attacks against this group for being helpless, physically defenseless, due to the increase in robberies and violence against them; illegally occupying their properties, evicting them from their homes, not paying them rent for commercial premises and “leaving the elderly without a livelihood,” Saab clarified.
“The Constitution and the law exist here and while we are here, the Public Ministry, the elderly will be the main champion of their human rights,” emphasized Tarek William Saab.

Regarding the complaints received in these last two months of the year, Saab explained that there were 535 where the commission of a crime was verified, among which 70 cases of invasions, 60 cases of disturbance to peaceful possession, 44 cases of injuries, 37 cases of psychological violence, 36 cases of threats, 35 cases of misappropriation and 33 cases of fraud.
The largest number of incidents have been registered in the Metropolitan Area of Caracas, Lara, Carabobo, Zulia and Barinas.
These statements were offered by Tarek William Saab to celebrate this Monday, May 29, the Day of the Elderly and assured that the Public Ministry will organize days like this throughout the country. In the Parque Carabobo square, they delivered medicines, there was vaccination against covi-19 and primary medical care for the elderly.
