Migratory crisis: RN bench in a tailspin against the Government for withdrawing the decree that established new requirements for temporary visa

An energetic reaction on the part of the National Renovation (RN) bench generated the withdrawal -by the Executive- of the decree that establishes new requirements for temporary residence, which had been submitted to the Comptroller’s Office for decision-making under the mandate of Sebastián Piñera.

According to the National Migration Service, the document was withdrawn by the government of President Gabriel Boric and, consequently, it will be necessary to wait for the Undersecretary of the Interior to re-enter the decree so that the Comptroller’s Office can make its decision and thus enter into force. .

It should be noted that the document in question establishes the migratory subcategories of temporary residence. However, according to the opposition parliamentarians, when it is withdrawn and as long as a new document is not entered, those established in Decree Law No. 1,094 of 1975 will govern —according to the National Migration Service.

One of the first reactions was that of the deputy and head of the RN Bank, Andrés Longton, who maintained that “it is unfortunate that one of the first actions of the Executive to combat irregular migration is to withdraw from the Comptroller the Decree that regulates visas temporary, which we approved in Congress”.

“I hope it is not to introduce labor tourism visas, which caused so much damage and precariousness to our country, or to generate some pardon for irregular migration. That would be a knock-on effect that would have unfortunate consequences for Chile,” he added. Deputy Longton.

For her part, the deputy and deputy head of the bench, Sofía Cid —representative of the Atacama Region—, insisted that withdrawing the Comptroller’s regulation delays the implementation of the Migration Law promoted by the previous government.

“The northern regions are the most affected by this disorder, with more insecurity that it entails. It is necessary that there are clear rules and demanding standards are set, as other countries do. This decision only prolongs the crisis and sends a bad signal: that you can continue to enter irregularly and that the possibility remains open to regularize later,” said deputy Cid.

Even harsher was the representative of the Antofagasta Region, deputy José Miguel Castro, who maintained that “President Boric has only had good manners, saying that he is going to govern for everyone. The truth is that for the people who lives in the north of Chile is not doing it, especially with gestures such as withdrawing from the Comptroller the Decree that establishes requirements for temporary visas”.

In the opinion of deputy Castro, “it is a tremendous double standard, when a constitutional state of exception is extended, but on the other hand, what is being done is breaking the Migration Law.” In this sense, he summoned Undersecretary Monsalve and told him that his next visit to the north “is of no use if he does not do it accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, that the people can no longer put up with illegal migration, that the steps border crossings are full of people, that we cannot continue with this migration, and that an ideological perspective like the one they have is not going to bear fruit,” he said, along with warning that at other times there have already been considerations such as that of the truckers .

“And don’t be surprised to see other unions involved and that the same citizens rise up and demand that the Government take action on migration,” concluded the RN parliamentarian.

Who also spoke was the deputy Miguel Becker, member of the Commission of Internal Government, Nationality, Citizenship and Regionalization of the Lower House, pointing to the style with which the new authorities are governing: “This Government, in a week has made it clear that they are not interested in solving the underlying problems. They only care about imposing their ideology. In the north there is a crisis that requires urgent measures and the withdrawn supreme decree allows progress in the application of the new Immigration Law”.

“For the President and his friends, it is more important to do things their way, than to respect the institutions and move forward with concrete solutions,” stressed Deputy Becker.

In turn, deputy Bernardo Berger, also a member of the Internal Government, Nationality, Citizenship and Regionalization Commission, declared that “by withdrawing from the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, the Decree that establishes new requirements for temporary residence, which the Government What he is doing in the background is to make the applicability of the new Immigration Law fail, which has not yet been able to take full effect. In addition, he would be disrespecting the National Congress itself, which after a long process managed to get it approved”.

“Incomprehensible attitude of the government for withdrawal of the decree that establishes new requirements for temporary residence in Chile, seems like an attempt to make the new legislation that establishes an orderly, safe and regular migration fail,” Senator Francisco Chahuán later added through his account. from Twitter.
