The Executive Branch appointed General Mario Stevenazzi as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Army, the Ministry of National Defense reported in a statement posted on Twitter.
The hierarch will assume the position on February 1, 2023. The appointment is given after the forced retirement of Gerardo Fregossi, due to the fact that he will turn 60 in March of next year.
Stevenazzi, who is known for his seniority in the Army, was the current head of the III Army Division in Tacuarembó.
“Given the mandatory retirement of General Gerardo Fregossi’s Army Commander-in-Chief on January 31, the Executive Branch resolved to designate General Mario Stevenazzi, current head of the Army, as Army Commander-in-Chief as of February 1. Army Div. III”, the Ministry of Defense said in the statement.
