The Cerro Largo Police detained a man after he sprayed his partner, a 41-year-old woman, with alcohol and set her on fire.
According to the information provided by the Arachana Police Headquarters, the incident occurred this Sunday afternoon in the city of Melo. The victim presented to a local hospital with major burns and, while she was receiving medical attention, she told authorities that her partner doused her in alcohol and then set her on fire.
In response to the complaint, the police officers went to the man’s home, whom they also found with skin lesions. In his case, the burns extended to the area of the hands and arms.
In accordance with Telemundo, the man told the police authorities that the victim’s version is not true. Instead, he assured that it was all an accident when they were preparing what was necessary to carry out a barbecue, so it was not intentional.
However, the Police manage that everything was intentional and that the man decided to attack his partner like this during an argument. The aforementioned media indicated that during the three years of the couple’s relationship, a complaint for domestic violence was never registered.
Hospitalized for burns
In the case of the woman, she received primary care at the health center she attended and was later transferred to the National Center for Attention to Burns (Cenaque) in Montevideo. She currently does not present a serious state of health, however, the injuries are considerable since they extend over a large part of her body.
The man, meanwhile, was arrested during the investigation of the facts, but is in the Hospital Pasteur from Montevideo to tend his wounds.
