In a 2022 characterized in its final segment by a gradual decrease in the values of meat exported by Uruguay, likewise foreign exchange income will be recordas anticipated Conrado Ferber, president of the National Meat Institute (INAC), who announced that around US$ 3,300 million will be achieved.
After last year’s record (US$ 2,989 million), in 2022 the income from meat exports rose 9.3% -until December 3-, compared to what happened in that period of 2021.
US$ 2,983.8 million already reached (Last year there were US$ 2,730.9 million in that same period).
From the beginning of January to the beginning of December, 630,568 thousand tons by shipment weight were shipped (last year there were 655,489), with a slight adjustment in volume of 3.8%.
At the moment (for all meat items) an average price of US$4,732 per ton was achieved, when in the same period of 2021 US$4,166 was averaged (with an improvement in that value of 13.5%).

China the leader by far
- China 56% (US$ 1,656 million) with a growth of 3.6% in 2022 compared to 2021.
- United States + Canada 15% (US$ 433 million) with an improvement of 31.7%.

Beef leads with 82%
Always based on data provided to El Observador by INAC technicians, considering exclusively beef exports (they explain 82% of the total foreign currency corresponding to all exported meats), revenues rose from 2021 to 2022 (always at the December 3) 11.3% to US$ 2,456 million, with a decrease of 5.7% in volume, reaching 489,225 tons (carcass weight).
The Average Income from Exports (IMEx) for this cumulative placement in the current year is located at US$5,021 per tonclearly above the value of the same period last year (US$ 4,256), 18% more.
The average price continues to fall and in the last week measured, the one that ended on December 3, it was US$ 4,035 per ton of beef.
The weight of the Chinese market
Based on carcass weight, always for bovine meat, China continues to be the largest customer, capturing 312.8 thousand tons (carcass weight), 64% of the totalbut its demand has decreased by 5.3% so far in 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
The rest of the podium includes the United States + Canada with 80.2 thousand tons, 6% of the total, with an improvement of 6.3%; and the European Union with a drop of 6.3% (36.7 thousand tons, 8% of the total).

Based on INAC data, this year the cattle slaughter reached 2,236,133 heads in 11 months, that is, 7.5% less than the accumulated figure at the beginning of December in 2021.
In the case of sheep slaughter, the latest data released by the INAC technicians establishes a cumulative figure of 1,145,224, with a drop in this case of 2.9% in relation to the data for the initial 11 months of 2021.
