The leader of the Cabildo Abierto political party, Senator Guido Manini Ríos, gave a press conference today in which he addressed the recent request by the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, to request the resignation of the Minister of Housing, Irene Moreira.
During his speech, Manini Ríos defended Moreira’s management and stated that, in his opinion, “there were no irregularities or errors” in the actions of the minister, who is also his wife.
The senator from the far-right party showed himself surprised by the reaction of some members of the government coalitionwho did not allow the minister to demonstrate that she was “correct”, in her opinion.
In this sense, he stressed that Cabildo Abierto has always supported the government coalition, but that lately they have felt some hostility from some partners.
Manini Ríos indicated that, in his opinion, the president would not have been bothered by Moreira’s actions as much as by his party’s proposals, especially the debt restructuring project and the position of going in depth in the reform of the social Security. According to the senator, “there must be something of that because it is not understood.”
Manini Ríos asks Lacalle to reconsider the resignation request
The lobbyist senator and party leader, Guillermo Domenech, also said this Friday that the political force will evaluate whether or not to continue to be part of the multicolor coalition that Lacalle Pou came to power.
“This is a direct attack on Cabildo Abierto. Here what bothers is that we have not been at the service of interests that do not seem to be the interests of the people, ”he said in dialogue with the radio program That’s how it goes
For Domenech, the request for Moreira’s resignation “is an absolutely unjustified measure,” and he concluded: “We have documentation in our possession that proves that we acted in accordance with the regulations and jurisprudence existing in the Ministry,” he said.
