In 2021, e-commerce turnover doubled

It also anticipates that by 2025 the number of users of the electronic commerce market will rise to 4,877 million.

The Nubecommerce 2021-2022 e-commerce industry report also highlighted that in parallel with the growth of e-commerce, “internet access continued to increase rapidly around the world and penetration is expected to reach 63.1% by 2025.”

In turn, the use of mobile devices increased and among them “smartphones represented almost 70% of all visits to retail websites.”

In Latin America, “small and medium-sized companies are still adapting to the idea of ​​electronic commerce, while the largest continue to expand with a view to Latin America, a hyper-growing market where e-commerce is expected to grow 31% per year until 2025” .

Although the market leaders are Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, growth expectations rise to 70% per year in Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Guatemala.

The latest report of Chamber of Electronic Commerce in Argentina (CACE) indicated that the local market “doubled its turnover” after having had the jump in the number of operations and new electronic buyers in the first year of the pandemic.

According to that study, 50% of buyers “tried different brands and will continue buying them after the pandemic” and 48% “discovered new online stores where they will continue buying after the pandemic.”

In particular, the e-commerce platform Tienda Nube increased its customer base by 28%, exceeded 90,000 active stores, added 330 workers and received an investment of US$500 million, which made them the eleventh Argentine unicorn, with a valuation of US$3.1 billion.

Last year the stores hosted on this platform exceeded 10 million transactions with more than 387 million products and billed $61,653 million, 89% more than in 2020.

They highlighted a growth of electronic commerce in the Argentine provinces and indicated that in the cases of Tucumán, Neuquén, Mendoza, Santa Fe and Córdoba more than doubled the turnover in the year 2021, compared to 2020.

In the national market, the use of mobile devices to make online sales “continues to be a trend” with more than 70% of operations transacted this way.

While “Mercado Pago remained the preferred payment method for Argentine consumers, although personalized media consolidated the great growth they had during the pandemic”, in reference to transfers, or payment with checks.

Regarding the logistics segment, according to Nubecommerce “the withdrawal of orders at the point of sale continued to decline, while personalized shipments remained in first place and the appearance of new logistics options gained ground in consumer preference” .

Among the new logistics options are shipping companies to pick-up points that are not necessarily the vendors’ premises, but rather businesses in other areas.

The report highlighted that social networks are “constantly growing digital sales channels”, and in the case of Tienda Nube they represented 41% of sales.
