On Thursday, June 23 of this year, personnel from the 841st Air Squadron, from the 8th Air Group, located in Callao, recorded in the passenger manifest that they would be part of the trip on the presidential plane five members of the family of the head of state, apart from his son Daniel Castillo Paredes. According to the official document of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP)through a process of access to public information, the Liber Center, of the Press and Society Institute (IPYS), in the list of travelers appears the person of ‘Lay Vásquez Castillo’, indicated as “nephew” of President Castillo and identified with ID 97069630.
After the publication of the FAP document by the Liber Center, the version circulated that ‘Lay Vásquez Castillo’ would actually be Fray Vásquez Castillo, nephew of President Pedro Castillo, a fugitive since March of this year.

However, President Castillo, through his Twitter account, dismissed the possibility that his nephew Fray Vásquez Castillo would have used the official flight to Chiclayo on Thursday, June 23 of this year, to evade justice.
Instead of clarifying who ‘Lay Vásquez Castillo’ is, to whom the false DNI 97069630 belongs, and forgetting that it is an official FAP document that the Liber Center disclosed, President Castillo denounced an alleged disinformation campaign to undermine his government. “The desperation for power and delegitimizing the Government has no limits. Now the political caste and opponents create a lie with tabloid and servile media to the mafias, affirming that Fray Vásquez would have traveled to Chiclayo on June 23 in the presidential plane ” , wrote the head of state.
“I strongly deny that Mr. Fray Vásquez traveled on the presidential plane. With this hoax they want to affect governability and democracy. I am respectful of the rule of law and justice. The document has been manipulated to create a situation that has never existed,” added Castillo.
However, the director of the Liber Center, Patricia Hoyos, clarified that she requested information on the presidential trip directly from the FAP through the mechanism for access to public information. There was no adulteration of the passenger manifest.
President Castillo’s response is worrying because it did not clarify the true identity of ‘Lay Vásquez Castillo’, whose name, surname and DNI were consigned in the passenger manifest by FAP staffbased on the information provided by the Government Palace.
The most serious thing is that ‘Lay Vásquez Castillo’ is not the only case. The following people related to the head of state appear in the aforementioned passenger manifest, as verified by La República:
- Fernández Díaz- nephew – 46551988.
- Cristian Ríos Castillo-family -77798606.
- Kevin Castillo-family -77042630.
- Cubas Vega Jon-family -47466998.
However, the data does not coincide: DNI 77798606, attributed to Cristian Ríos Castillo, corresponds to a minor. The real ID number of Cristian Ríos is 77298606.
DNI 77042630, which was registered in the passenger manifest as belonging to Kevin Castillo Medina, belongs to another minor. The real DNI of Kevin Castillo Medina is 77042633.
And the DNI 47466998 registered in the name of Jon Cubas Vega corresponds to Carlos Concha Pineda. The real DNI of John (and not Jon) Cubas Vega is 73347370. It goes without saying that it is too suspicious.
The importance of being called Fray Vásquez
According to the prosecutors against the corruption of power, Fray Vásquez Castillo acted as coordinator of the alleged criminal organization led by his uncle, President Pedro Castillo.
Zamir Villaverde, Bruno Pacheco and Karelim López have told the authorities that Vásquez allegedly contacted businessmen interested in contracting with the State.
