Iber Maraví incites violent marches in favor of the coup leader Pedro Castillo

“The fight is not over yet, we must not assume that Pedro Castillo has already been, as some are dreaming and believe that the way out is new elections. The right wants new elections.” in a meeting of the Sute Huamanga that was organized in the House of the Master of Ayacucho.

In a video recorded after the coup perpetrated by Castillo, on December 7, Maraví –who records proven links to the terrorist organization Sendero Luminoso– is seen haranguing members of the Ayacucho People’s Defense Front (Fredepa) and del Sute, organizations linked to Movadef, to carry out radical protests.

Maraví, whose participation in terrorist acts in the 1980s appears in police reports, gave a speech in favor of the dictator and encouraged the other members of the Sute to ignore the government of Dina Boluarte, who succeeded Castillo in office, vacated by the Congress and today arrested.

“(Pedro Castillo’s new lawyer) has recently made public the notification of the preliminary arrest (to the former president). In order to have preliminarily detained him, there must first be a preliminary trial,” emphasized Maraví.

And he added: “The lawyer has shown that when Congress, upon learning of the speech given by the president, anticipates the meeting for 1:30 pm Compañeros, the first summons was for the issue of the third vacancy, they did not modify the procedure or the internal documentation that should be requested as support”.

When referring to the illegal closure of Congress and the reorganization of the justice system announced by Castillo, the former minister described this unconstitutional decision as “an alleged coup.”

Iber Maraví’s words were accepted. On December 18, through a statement, Fredepa called on all regional organizations to continue participating actively “in the fight” to demand a Constituent Assembly, a new Constitution, and the closure of Congress.

Huamanga was one of the cities in the country where acts of violence were recorded. According to figures from the Ombudsman’s Office, nine people died here due to clashes with law enforcement.

Palace visits

Despite the fact that he resigned from the Ministry of Labor in October 2021, due to his dark past, Maraví Olarte did not part with Pedro Castillo. In fact, she continued to visit his friend at the Government Palace.

Only in November of this year, he met with the former president on the 4th and 15th. On December 6, the day before the coup, he met Castillo twice. According to what he declared to Exitosa, on this date the then president confessed that he did not have the votes to avoid the vacancy.

Keep in mind

  • During 2022, when Pedro Castillo was still president, Iber Maraví visited the office of the general secretary of the Ministry of Labor.
  • This happened on August 4, one day before the then head of Labor, Juan Lira Loayza, was removed from office.
  • He has also registered an appointment at the PCM, this was on September 16. The meeting lasted three hours.
