Heart Week with awareness activities

Like every year, the Honorary Commission for Cardiovascular Health organizes Heart Week, which this year takes place under the slogan: Put a heart on it. Your commitment, put it into action. In this framework, the Municipality of Montevideo joins with proposals in its network of neighborhood polyclinics.

During the week of Monday, September 26 to Friday, September 30, there will be technical and nutritional counseling activities, first aid workshops, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). There will also be playful proposals for health promotion and physical exercises.

Tuesday 27

  • Aquiles Lanza Polyclinic (Iquique 820) from 10:00 to 12:00: Workshop on healthy habits with a group of obese, diabetic, dyslipidemia and hypertensive patients
  • Liceo N° 44 Melilla (Colón) from 12:00 to 14:00: Cardiovascular health workshop
  • Plaza Brandi (Adolfo Rodríguez and Carafí) from 10:00 to 12:00: Health fair of the network of the municipality G
  • Policlínica Barrio Sur (Gonzalo Ramírez corner Carlos Viana) at 2:00 p.m.: Tai Chi class, music, workshops, fruit stand

Wednesday 28

  • Julia Arévalo Cultural Center (Alfredo Moreno and Tomkinson road, Paso de la Arena) from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Blood pressure measurement, blood glucose control, weight, height. In addition, a gym class will be offered with the center’s physical education teacher.
  • Aquiles Lanza Polyclinic (square next door) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.: blood pressure control, anthropometric measurements and physical education activities will be carried out
  • Buceo Polyclinic (Santiago Rivas 1500) at 2:00 p.m.: cardio-healthy walk. Activity organized in conjunction with the municipality G health network and the ABC+ health mobile
  • Crottogini Polyclinic (exit from Plaza Goes) at 2:00 p.m.: heart-healthy walk from Goes to the MAM that culminates with a workshop and gym class led by a teacher from municipality C. Convenes the health network of municipality C
  • Liceo Nº 64 (Parma 3026) at 9:30 a.m.: controls and educational activities will be carried out with high school students

Thursday 29

  • Paso de la Arena Polyclinic (2459 Tomkinson road) from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: recruitment of public with cardiovascular risk (control of blood pressure, weight, height, abdominal perimeter and glycemia)
  • Zully Sánchez Polyclinic (4216 Coronel Raíz road, corner of Saravia) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: an active break will be given by a physical education teacher
  • Amphitheater of the Superior Technical Institute of Diving (3729 Rivera Avenue) from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: RCB workshop (basic cardiac resuscitation)
  • Lavalleja Polyclinic (Soria 1234) from 10:00 to 12:00: practical workshops to improve health

friday 30

  • Casabó Polyclinic (Charcas and 10th Street, in an open-air space) from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: pressure control, hemoglucotest and promotion of healthy habits
  • Paso de la Arena Polyclinic (2459 Tomkinson road) from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.: recruitment of public with cardiovascular risk (blood pressure control, weight, height, abdominal perimeter, glycemia). Food education.
  • Parque Bellán Polyclinic (Avenida Agraciada 4241) at 11:30 and 13:30: Resuscitation workshop. Checkpoint for cardiovascular risk factors, height weight, blood pressure measurement, hemoglucotest.
  • Buceo Polyclinic (Santiago Rivas 1500) at 2:00 p.m.: cultural walk. The main historical and tourist points of the neighborhood will be visited accompanied by local references. Activity for adults and seniors

From Monday 26 to Friday 30

  • Parque Bellán Polyclinic (Av. Agraciada 4241) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: A checkpoint will be installed for cardiovascular risk factors, weight, height, blood pressure measurement, hemoglucotest

A bet on health

The prevention of cardiovascular diseases is a fundamental part of the care provided by the Municipality’s polyclinics.

The strategy includes the promotion of healthy habits, a balanced diet, regular physical activity, stress reduction and not consuming tobacco or alcohol.

How to take care of yourself?

  • Reducing or eliminating risk factors: smoking, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, hypertension, diabetes, overweight.
  • Maintaining a healthy diet: eat fruits and vegetables, foods rich in fiber, low in sugar and without trans fats.
  • Avoiding tobacco use.
  • Doing physical activities.
  • Maintaining regular checks.
