He scammed several deliveries and a prostitute and was sentenced to community work

A 37-year-old man was sentenced to serve 30 days of community service for having defrauded deliveries in Parque del Plata several times. On one occasion, he did the same with a sex worker, reported the spokesman for the Canelones Headquarters, Alejandro Ferreira.

According to what he said, the man routinely placed orders to different supermarkets, pizzerias and other services that have delivery for “considerable sums of money”, but when the merchandise was delivered he said that he had forgotten the money inside his house, he locked himself up and never came out again. Thus he swindled several deliveries.

On one occasion, he hired a prostitute and when he went to fire her, he used the same tactic. He walked her gently to the door and told her that she would be right back to pay him and she never did.

A justice of the peace in Canelones sentenced him to 30 days of community service for the crime of fraudulently obtaining a benefit. “Whoever, knowing that it was not possible to pay, took advantage of hotel services, restaurants, transportation or other services in general, will be punished with a sentence of 7 to 30 days of community work,” states article 366 of the Penal Code .

A similar case in La Blanqueada

In La Blanqueada lived a man who threatened deliveries with a hammer or a baseball bat to steal their orders. That caused the delivery men who work in the area to organize themselves and avoid going to his address.

His way of stealing had some variations. One of them was, for example, lying about her name or giving the address of another apartment in the same building when making the request. When the delivery man honked the horn, he went downstairs and picked up the food, but the worker demanded payment from another apartment. In other cases, he would roll up a $20 bill that he would throw at delivery men, pretending to pay in full.
