The president of the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (Funvisis), Robert Betancourtreported that in the next few days they will submit to the National Assembly the Seismology Law project, a legal instrument that includes the knowledge of earthquake-resistant engineering.
In an interview offered on the Al Aire program broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) from Monday to Friday, Betancourt stated that he held a meeting with the People’s Power Minister for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, A/J Remigio Ceballos, to refine the details of this legislation to be brought before Parliament.
He stressed that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Funvisis, the second symposium on seismology and seismic engineering research will be held on July 26 through the YouTube platform, where seismic microzoning will be addressed.
He specified that on Wednesday, August 03, the usual tour of Los Palos Grandes will be carried out to explain the reasons why some buildings collapsed and others did not during the 1967 Caracas earthquake.
In addition, the president of the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research highlighted that the Covenin 27-56 standard was updated and it is expected that the Technical Regulations for Earthquake-Resistant Constructions will be made public soon.
