First there were the late responses to the social conflicts and now the neglect of the promotion of mining investment. The latter was observed yesterday during the inauguration of Expomina Peru 2022, an event whose inauguration, for the first time in 10 years, did not have the presence of the President of the Republic or the head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem). The only representative of the Executive Branch was the director of Mining Promotion and Sustainability of said ministry and a member of Peru Libre, Kaimer Dolmos Vengoa.
Despite this, the one who was present at the opening of the event by the State was the president of Congress, María del Carmen Alva. The ceremony was also attended by various representatives of the private sector and businessmen such as the president of Expomina Peru 2022, Víctor Gobitz; the CEO of Chinalco, Zhang Xudong; Jorge León Benavides, president of Grupo Digama, and the Canadian ambassador to Peru and Bolivia, Ralph Jansen.

During the inauguration, Alva highlighted the importance of mining for the country and that it should “support the private investment”. “If there is no private investment, there is no work and what people want is work,” she assured.
Meanwhile, Dolmos excused the absence of Pedro Castillo and the head of Minem, Carlos Palacios, and then stressed that mining has a multiplier effect in generating employment by demanding goods and services, something that Think Tanks such as the Peruvian Institute of Economy have explained and reported on several occasions.

- At the end of the event, Alva said that the questioning of the head of Minem will probably “take place in two weeks.”
- He also described as unfortunate plagiarism of the Executive that was detected in the bill to make a referendum on the Constituent Assembly. “(It’s) unfortunate because there are too many plagiarisms in that cabinet,” he remarked.
