The photographer Ecuadorian Isadora Romero is the winner of World Press Photo 2022, regional categoryOpen format, with his project `Blood is a seed`.
The 24 regional winners were chosen from 64,823 works belonging to 4,066 photographers from 130 countries.
‘Blood is a seed’ is an audiovisual that tells an intimate story about memory loss related to the protection of seed diversity.
Regarding the work of Isadora Romero, the jury said: “It is a very powerful project that addresses an issue of global concern from a personal point of view and its consequent individual losses. After investigating her own roots and ancestry, the photographer investigates the violent and strategic suppression of cultural knowledge and the profound repercussions this has on new generations, societies and the planet itself.
Region Winners
For South America, photojournalists Vladimir Encina de Colombia, Irina Werning from Argentina and Lalo de Almeida from Brazil.
Among Latin Americans, the Mexican Yael Martínez was the winner in the Open Format category of the Central America and North America region.

Of the winners regional will come out winners awards in the 4 categories implemented this year: Photo of the Year, Photo Story of the Year, Long Range Project of the Year and Open Format of the Year. The verdict will be known on April 7 and on May 15 the exhibition of works will begin in Amsterdam, which will later tour the continents. (AVV)
