Correos de Cuba processes delayed packages due to breach of contract by a Panamanian company

The International Messaging and Exchange Company (EMCI), belonging to the business group Cuban Post Officeresumed the processing of delayed loads sent through the company Xpress Multiservices SA for delivery to recipients in Cuba, the entity itself reported.

In a note disclosed on its Twitter profile, the company acknowledged that in recent weeks there have been repeated complaints about the delay in the processing and delivery to recipients of 10 containers with parcel shipments processed to Cuba from Panama by the said company.

As a reason, the text indicates that the aforementioned Panamanian company failed to comply with the contractual agreement with the company in charge of receiving and distributing the international parcel that arrives on the Island.

The statement adds that EMCI and Xpress Multiservices SA recently concluded the negotiations that they held for several weeks, and adopted the commitment “to strictly comply with what was agreed in the contract for this service.”

The International Mail Exchange and Messaging Company, regardless of the fact that it claims not to be responsible for what happened, offered sincere apologies for the damage caused to customers, according to the institutional statement released.

The reception and distribution of international parcels was strongly affected on the Island by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on air and sea connections, which, together with internal difficulties, generated a notable delay in delivery, and consequently , discomfort among customers of this service.

In recent times, the Cuban Government has set among its priorities to end the long delays and streamline the logistics process of the national entities involved in the activity, including the Cuban Post Office Business Group, an entity that has taken some measures in this regard.

Earlier this year, the group began establish alliances with the recently approved micro, small and medium private companies (MSMEs) of the country, to streamline the process of receiving and delivering the international parcels it handles.

The new agreements also included self-employed workers and state-owned companies with a view to reducing the delivery times of packages to customers, according to what was reported at the time by the conglomerate that focuses on import and export services of correspondence, international postal shipments, courier parcel and express messaging on the Island.

According to official figures provided by the entity, of the almost 594,000 international shipments received by the postal organization in 2019, the figure grew to 1.7 million in 2020, and a year later the increase reached 4 million, mostly from courier parcel, received from the 45 international agencies with which Cuba has contractual relations.
